Welcoming Fall at Natural Bridge Park

Student group Monacan IndianThe unofficial end of summer, Labor Day, has come and gone. Summer vacations are over and the children are back in school. Everyone can take a deep breath, especially all you parents out there, because you survived June-August. We at Natural Bridge are sad to see the summer crowds go, but it is time for new activities.

For our first summer with a new ownership group, we are pretty pleased with how things went. We were able to host hundreds of families, thousands of children, and countless tour groups. Our goal is to host 15,000 school children by the end of 2014, and as we begin field trip season we have already hosted nearly 7,000.

wine tastingsThe fall will bring many exciting things to Natural Bridge Park. Of course, our ever-awing Natural Bridge is here, and our Caverns aren’t going anywhere fast, either. These two natural wonders are the source of our pride and commitment here. This fall and winter, we’ve also planned many events to make Natural Bridge Park a year-round destination. In addition to being an amazing spot right off of I-81 and the Blue Ridge Parkway to view fall foliage, we’ve got Wednesday Wine Tastings in the works, Horseback Trail Riding, Artisan Demonstrations, Carriage Rides, and even our big Model Room Reveal on October 8th.

We have expanded the hours of the Red Fox Tavern (and check out the awesome Red Door, too!) for lunch on Thursdays, Fridays and Saturdays. Caverns tours will run from 9am-5pm, and the Bridge will be open from 8am-9pm, with the Drama of Creation beginning at 8:30pm (until further notice). The Monacan Exhibit will be open from 10am-5pm through October.

header_monacan_festivalOn September 19th-21st, we will host the Monacan Indian Nation Fall Festival, a weekend-long gathering of music, art, food and beautiful cultural activities. The following weekend on September 27th is the first annual Scout Day at Natural Bridge. We will host a variety of activities focusing on advancing Scout skills and broadening horizons, for Girl and Boy Scouts of all ages.
