Journey Back 300 Years

Natural Bridge and the Monacan Indian Nation of Virginia have joined together to construct a living history Native American Village complex. Popular with education programs and visitors alike, guests step back in time to see what life was like in a typical Native American Village, 300 years ago. The Village is along the Cedar Creek Nature Trail, just past the Natural Bridge, and is included with Admission tickets.

Monacan Indians were first believed to have discovered the Natural Bridge while trying to escape an advancing enemy a long time ago. The deemed it "The Bridge of God". Village guide sit in work shelters and the ati, a hand-constructed house covered in woven cattails, while making tools and baskets. Guides conduct presentations throughout the day and are available to answer visitors’ questions about Monacan life, past and present. Learn about cooking, construction, fishing, gardening, and more. Daily activities change seasonally. Visit often and watch the village grow.
