About the Sunrise Service:
For over 50 years Nature’s Cathedral has been the site of worship on Easter Sunday. Originating in 1951, the first Easter Sunrise services were held at the large stone amphitheater along Cedar Creek Trail adjacent to today’s Monacan Indian Living History. As the popularity of the Easter sunrise service grew it was moved under Nature’s Cathedral herself. In it’s most popular time period, the late 1960’s, it is said that over 20,000 locals and guests of the resort were in attendance. It was so highly regarded that local television station WDBJ would broadcast the Natural Bridge Easter Sunrise Service nationally for CBS. Mick or Mack Grocery chain would cater a big pancake breakfast following the service. Easter Sunrise Service at Nature’s Cathedral remains a once in a lifetime opportunity to worship in the presence of one of God’s greatest creations, The Natural Bridge.
