The Natural Bridge in partnership with the Stone Bridge Equestrian Center are developing horse riding trails at the future State Park

Blazing new trails…

ChampionsThe Natural Bridge Park and Historic Hotel and Stone Bridge Equestrian Center are teaming up to promote awareness for conservation of natural resources by expanding educational opportunities that coincide with outdoor recreation and the equine industry in the Lexington-Rockbridge area of Virginia. This weekend, Stone Bridge Equestrian Center hosts the first of three summertime horse shows.  Located less than five miles from the Natural Bridge Park, the horse shows are free for spectators and present a wonderful opportunity for families to enjoy a day of equine activities.  Staff from SBEC will be on hand to answer questions about summer programs and events.

Shelley Stewart, business development manager and riding instructor for Stone Bridge Equestrian Center said: “We are excited to partner with The Natural Bridge Park to provide equestrian themed packages to hotel guests. Whatever your age and experience level, we have a summer camp or lesson program that is right for you. Other unique packages are under development, including riding lessons and equestrian themed weddings. At SBEC we encourage you to indulge your love of horses.  We pride ourselves on maintaining a family friendly facility where you can ride, learn, and grow at any age! The first package to be offered is an overnight stay at the Natural Bridge Hotel with a 45 minute riding lesson at Stone Bridge Equestrian Center.”

Carly Pleines, Environmental Programs Specialist at the Natural Bridge agrees that there is much potential for expansion by partnering closely with the Stone Bridge Equestrian Center.  “We are in the process of grooming our first horseback riding trail that should be ready for riding in late June.  By providing additional recreational opportunities for our guests, we are supporting the local economy and building community relationships.  We have a shared appreciation for nature and animals with SBEC,  plus a focus on land conservation, education and recreation that extends to our visitors and guests at the Natural Bridge Park.”

Both SBEC and NBP are promoting educational opportunities for kids and are committed to instilling a love of the outdoors. For starters, Grand Prix jumper rider Ragan Roberts is hosting a clinic and open house where friends and family are invited for a fun day of horses. Watch the clinic participants as they jump their horses, learn about summer riding programs, and enjoy $5 pony ride lessons on Saturday, June 14th starting at 8am.  More information about this and other events can be found on the Stone Bridge Equestrian Center and the Natural Bridge Websites.
